Percy Faith was a band leader and famous instrumental artist. The most famous instrumental song of the recorded era was Theme From A Summer Place, a number one song in 1960, and the top song of both the year and the decade. In 1969, Percy Faith remade the song with vocals, as had been done by others. In 1975, Summer Place '76, another reworked version of Theme From A Summer Place became popular.

Aside from this spectacular achievement with Summer Place, Percy Faith had a long career as a band leader, and performed many movie scores and show tunes over the years. He worked with singers like Tony Bennett, Doris Day, and Johnny Mathis, and as shown below.
The Shillelagh Singers, as shown occasionally, were the regular backup vocal group for Percy Faith, even where not credited, up to at least 1954. In fact, they were also known as Ray Charles Singers. |
