Percy Faith And His Orchestra

Percy Faith was a band leader and famous instrumental artist. In 1960, after the big band era ended and well into the rock era, Percy Faith had a number one hit song with The Theme From A Summer Place. This instrumental band song became the top song of the year, top song of the decade, and perhaps the top instrumental of the recorded era. In 1969, Percy Faith remade the song with vocals. Then in 1976, he redid the song again as an instrumental dance version, retitling it Summer Place '76.
Aside from this spectacular achievement with Summer Place, Percy Faith had a long career as a band leader, and performed many movie scores and show tunes over the years. He worked with singers like Tony Bennett, Doris Day, and Johnny Mathis.
The Shillelagh Singers, as shown occasionally, were the regular backup vocal group for Percy Faith, even where not credited, up to at least 1954. They were also known as Ray Charles Singers.
