Release Me, sometimes called Please Release Me was written by Eddie Miller, Dub Williams, and Robert Yount. Eddie Miller recorded the song in 1949. Although his version was not very popular, the song became a classic and was recorded famously by many others, in soul, light and country styles. The Esther Phillips soul ballad was the first to make the top 20 countdown, reaching number 8. Engelbert Humperdinck took the song to number 6 with an extended title. His version became a classic. The Joann Bon song was an answer song.
Songs, from 1990 on, by Wilson Phillips, The Ancient, Miki Howard, Industry, Oh Laura, Agnes, Tonic, and Taproot were all different.
