Close To You was the title for many popular songs, including two different number one hits. First, (They Long To Be) Close To You, was a 1970 number one song for Carpenters. The writers were Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Previously, it had been an album track by Dionne Warwick. The song was later covered by many others, including a comedy version by The Clams with Lou Christie singing. In 1990, Maxi Priest reached number one with a different song.
